U19 Program Overview
Athlete Development Pathways after U16
Athletes who complete U16 can continue their development through two distinct pathways, each offering opportunities for ski training and competition.
-
Vancouver Ski Team (VST) is intended for athletes wishing to learn to train and compete as an elite athlete whether or not they have desires to continue to elite provincial and national ski racing. VST Athletes compete in FIS-sanctioned events across Western and Eastern Canada, with a pathway toward the BC Provincial Ski Team, the Canadian National Team, and collegiate ski racing.
-
Mt Seymour Ski Club U19 Hybrid Program is designed for athletes who want to continue developing as skiers while maintaining the flexibility to pursue other interests alongside ski racing.
About the U19 Hybrid Program
The Mt Seymour Ski Club’s U19 Hybrid Program builds on the U16 program and is intended for athletes who have completed U16 and want to continue developing as skiers. It offers a flexible option for athletes who want to remain involved in ski racing while also exploring other interests. The program also supports a gradual transition from competitive racing into other roles, including becoming a licensed ski coach.
Program Expectations and Opportunities
-
Athletes are expected to volunteer as junior assistant coaches, supporting senior coaches in the entry-level programs.
-
Participants are encouraged to attend age-appropriate training camps and travel with teammates to race venues under the supervision of senior coaching staff.
-
When appropriate, athletes may also take on leadership and support roles during training and at events.
