U16 Program Overview

For athletes who have completed U14, the U16 program begins with dryland and at-home training that supports long-term fitness and skill development, regardless of competitive goals.

Training and Competition

All U16 athletes continue to train and compete in BC Alpine Zone races. While some may choose to pursue higher-level regional competition across British Columbia, the program is designed so that every athlete can race for enjoyment, experience, and the valuable mental skills that come from challenging themselves against their peers.

New for the 2026/27 season we will be implementing a model we have had success with in our U10/12/14 program - the U16 program will also now have two-tier options:

  • The U16 Core Program will be Tues AND Thurs nights 5:30-8:30 and one weekend day 8:30-2:30. Athletes in U16 core have a choice of Saturday OR Sunday

  • The U16 Accelerated Program will include Tues AND Thurs nights 5:30-8:30 plus both weekend days Sat AND Sun 8:30-2:30

U16 Core Program athletes will attend fitness testing, drylands and fall camp and regular training (3x weekly) along with those in the accelerated program we will adapt race, and event starts to better balance the needs of multi-sport commitments, academics, and the budgets of each individual family/athlete.

U16 Accelerated Program athletes will share the same training plan early season fitness testing, dryland, fall camp will all be done a complete U16 group. Once we move into the competitive phase of the season Acceleration program athletes have a more committed regular training program with 4x session weekly and the primary difference between our two U16 tiers will be a more aggressive travel schedule including additional training camps and race starts that may be 4-6 days in duration.

Both our U16 Core and Accelerated programs are aimed at producing proficient skiers who want to continue to pursue racing. The goal regardless of competitive aspirations is to keep our hard-working club prodigies skiing, training, and racing as long as possible. These athletes are also the future of our club’s coaching foundation and the pipeline to this via our U19 program. Having our mature athletes remain in the club as coaches and educators brings years of knowledge and skills back to our entry level kids and creates a pathway through our development cycle that comes full circle.
